MUSIC VIDEOS
First off is the classic heavy metal band Judas Priest who were the kings of screaming guitars, soaring choruses and, apparently, giant robots in the '80s. Lead singer Rob Halford is known primarily for an amazing set of pipes but also for coming out of the closet during his time with band (who have decidely dude-centric fan base). Anyway, I post this video not necessarily because I'm a huge fan. Instead, I post it because of the sheer 80ness of the whole thing. Plus, Rob is being picked up by a GIANT, SENTIENT SLOT MACHINE! Awesome.
Next up is "On Our Own", the theme song to Ghostbusters 2 as performed by Bobby Brown. The soundtrack stayed in my cassette player for a long time in the early 90s. Like the Priest video, I post this because it's such a product of its time. Look at the lime green suit, the dance moves, even Donald Trump and tell me it's not funny.
VIRAL VIDEOS
Awesome. How did they make robot cube helmets?
Word of mouth is an example of viral distribution. On the internet, word of mouth comes in the form of user comments and, particularly forwarded emails and links to videos on YouTube. So a viral video becomes big not because of advertising, but because large amount of people find them impressive/amusing/gross and pass them on.
Daft Punk are an electronic music duo who created a song called "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger". The words are repetitive and robotic and the beat causes uncontrollable ass shaking in anyone to hear it. Anyway, someone decided it would be cool to write words making the lyrics on their hands and "acting" out the song in time. Check out Daft Hands...
Now, in a similar fashion these two (in shape) ladies decided to do a full body version titled (of course) Daft Bodies. Take a look...
