Un-priestly Behavior

You can see from the Holy Rollers post that my priest costume wasn't half bad. So not bad, in fact, that I got interesting looks on the street by people who assumed I was a man of God. However, I think one man was more surprised than most.

As a preface to this story, I'd like to state that drivers in Boston are obnoxiously aggressive. For example, many of them have a habit of wedging their way into oncoming traffic in order to make a left turn. I, on the other hand, wait until the coast is clear and choose not to block intersections with my car. Though I'm typically a calm driver, there are times when I can't resist calling an inconsiderate Boston driver an idiot (often with harsher words). Now, back to the story.

After donning my priest costume at work, I drove straight to the Bowl-a-thon in my VW Jetta. I was driving and became lost in the Depeche Mode music blasting from my car stereo. Anyway, I was waiting at a red light to take a left turn onto Massachusetts Ave. After a few seconds I became aware of two car horns. It was a single lane road and I realized that they wanted me to move forward, making room and allowing them to take a right on red. As I was getting the Jetta into gear to move I watched, in my rear view, the motorist two cars back, let's call him Moron, pokie his head out the window. Moron yelled, and I quote "I can take a right on red @**hole!" Now, I was prepared to move my car already. That outburst was obnoxious and totally unnecessary.

So, the first car drove past me, taking a right on red. Anticipating Moron's car, I rolled down my window and waited for him to pull up. He did, glared at me and before he could get a word out I raised my middle finger in the air and said, heartily, "Hey, **** you!" His only reaction was to say "Is that right?" and then quickly take his coveted right on red.

Bottom line, Moron got cursed out by a priest (!) for acting like an obnoxious idiot. At least, that's what he saw. I had forgotten completely about my costume. Thinking back, I could have given him a stern warning about Rage, 1 of the 7 deadly sins! I hope to never drive like true Bostonian, but I won't stand being personally disrespected by them. Still, even though the dude deserved it, I'm not terribly proud of how I reacted. There are better ways.
