Music: Bat for Lashes

On Monday, I took my first trip to one of the premiere hipster concert venues in Boston, Great Scott. It was there that 4 forest nymphs emerged from a fairy tale draped in sparkly renaissance clothing. They played violins, electric guitars, bass, synthesizers and other instruments I didn't recognize to create haunting beat-heavy folkish music. It was a dreamy show with a satisfying sound.

Natasha Khan, one of the nymphs I encountered is the mind behind Bat for Lashes. A Pakistani-born Brit, she is almost certainly classicaly trained and uses an art-school education to incorporate multimedia elements into her music. Comparisons to Bjork and Siouxsie Sioux abound but, in my opinion, her music feels most like that of Kate Bush. Both have a fairy tale/medieval rennaissance vibe that flows throughout their work.

After releasing a few EP's, here is Bat for Lashes debut long player (aka LP, album). The first single, "What's a Girl to Do" is excellent, as is the accompanying Donnie Darko-esque video.
